Packaging Première 2024: creativity, innovation and sustainability

The Packaging Premiere 2024 celebrated creativity, sustainability and innovation, bringing together international designers, material manufacturers and new start-ups to showcase the revolutionary products that lay the foundation for the future of packaging.

Many exhibitors showcased their state-of-the-art materials for new luxury packaging options, while industry experts and international guests brought new aspects to the table during the many conferences and debates, also presenting interesting case histories to inspire continued development in this industry.

Furthermore, special attention was given to the combination of sustainability, technology and creativity, highlighting the importance of a holistic approach in the packaging world so as to achieve successful results with the primary objective of enhancing product value and respecting the environment.

Let’s look at the new aspects that the experts at Nastrificio di Cassano brought to the exhibition.

The latest Nastrificio di Cassano news

Our company has been manufacturing label printing materials since 1962. We specialise in textile, eco-sustainable and speciality labelling and packaging solutions for the wine, cosmetics, clothing, automotive and furniture industries.

However, this year we pushed our boundaries just a little further: after years of participation as visitors at the Packaging Première, for the first time we decided to attend the event as an exhibitor, in order to make our contribution to the development of the sector, with a particular focus on luxury packaging in the Wine & Spirits industry.

In fact, at our stand we unveiled two new aspects of the luxury collection range dedicated to the wine sector: an innovative cork material and a state-of-the-art compound made from 80% calcium carbonate and 20% HDPE.

Both products are eco-friendly and sustainable solutions for label printing. Let’s find out more.

    Cork

The cork labels by Nastrificio di Cassano bestow a touch of luxury and originality to the product, whilst adding value to the high-end wines. Not only does cork contribute to the aesthetics and prestige of the product, but also to its sustainability, given it is a natural and renewable material.

Moreover, the soft and embracing texture of this material paves the way towards a distinctive tactile experience, which makes each bottle of wine a true masterpiece of design, sensory awareness and respect for the environment.

    Calcium carbonate and HDPE

Our innovative calcium carbonate compound is Cradle to Cradle certified, which means it meets the highest standards of environmental sustainability. What’s more, this material is water-resistant and stain-proof, characteristics that make it ideal for applications in the wine sector.

Thanks to their resistance even at low temperatures, the calcium carbonate and HDPE labels maintain their integrity and beauty even inside the ice bucket, guaranteeing an excellent presentation of the product at all times.

Our contribution to the industry and the environment

In addition to these innovations, during the three days spent at the Packaging Première 2024, we also presented a range of alternative solutions for the development of the wine and cosmetics industries: flocked materials with special textures, such as velvet, as well as wood-effect and glitter polyester designer labels.

In addition, we paid particular attention to the development of materials with biodegradable elements to promote packaging sustainability even further. Our experts worked exceptionally hard to develop these solutions that bring together sophisticated aesthetics and respect for the environment.

The result is a luxury packaging that not only enhances the product, but also responds to the increase in demands concerning environmental protection in this market.

Labels that stimulate the senses while boosting value

The state-of-the-art materials by Nastrificio di Cassano are custom designed to offer a unique and engaging experience to all consumers. In fact, the exceptional visual and tactile impact of our solutions not only captures the attention, but also boosts the product experience as a whole, stimulating the senses and making it totally unforgettable.

Our labels strive, therefore, to improve the visual and tactile appeal of the products, increasing their prestige and value also from an economic point of view. Designed to distinguish themselves, our solutions turn every bottle or package into a sensory masterpiece, boosting the image of the product and the brand itself.

A successful experience at Allianz MiCo in Milan

Our attendance at the Packaging Première in Milan was a fascinating experience for the entire team. In fact, during the time spent inside the Allianz MiCo Halls, we had the opportunity to meet new customers and collaborators, opening the doors to new and promising partnerships. In particular, many designers were fascinated by the creativity and innovation of our products dedicated to the cosmetics and Wine & Spirits industry.

Proud and delighted with our solutions, we firmly believe that they can become a real game changer in the packaging industry. We strive to continue to work with passion and commitment towards constantly innovating our products, always looking for new ways to combine aesthetics, sustainability and technology, so as to offer only the best to our customers and collaborators.

  • Decorative fabric ribbons: a touch of class for your corporate gifts

Decorative fabric ribbons: a touch of class for your corporate gifts

Surprise your customers with corporate gifts showing attention to detail. Find out how to receive your own brand of bespoke decorative ribbons.

In the business world, attention to detail is what makes the difference. When you choose a gift for a customer, supplier or collaborator, your gift is a marketing strategy, and wrapping it carefully reflects the attention you give to the recipient. Choosing to wrap your gifts with bespoke ribbons boosts your brand identity and improves the market’s perception of your business, but only if you pay attention to two key aspects:

    1.  The colours

For corporate gifts, selecting the colours of the decorative ribbons is key as they must reflect the shades used for your brand identity.

If you have chosen a specific colour for your logo and the materials you use for your marketing activities, because it conveys the values and sentiment that reflect your corporate philosophy, this colour should also be selected for the ribbons used to wrap your gifts.

This does not mean that, if your logo is blue then the ribbons must be blue, they could be white with a blue trim, or pale blue with dark blue details. The important thing is that your main colour is present along the entire length of the ribbon, to ensure consistency with your marketing activities and convey your true values.

    2.  The logo

If you want your corporate gifts to be truly unique and remembered by the recipient, make sure your logo is on the ribbon you use to wrap them.

You can use the entire logo or just the pictogram, the reduced version of a logo that is easiest to remember; you can choose to have it embroidered or printed, the important thing is that it is present, to boost your identity and create a real bond between you and the person unwrapping the gift.

Where to find decorative ribbons for your corporate gifts

Having your own bespoke ribbons is easier than you think.

If you need small quantities and prefer to use neutral ribbons, that is ribbons that use your corporate colours but without your logo, you can find them ready for delivery at our warehouse in Cassano Magnago, near Varese.

If, however, you need truly unique ribbons for your corporate gifts, you can contact our offices and discuss how to create your very own bespoke corporate ribbons. Thanks to our in-house weaving department, we can create ribbons embroidered with your logo and provide you with exclusive rolls of fabric to surprise your customers, as well as suppliers and collaborators.

Boost your brand image using bespoke decorative ribbons for your corporate gifts.

  • Advertising banner materials: the advantages of fabric

Advertising banner materials: the advantages of fabric

Find out why it’s better to use neutral label fabrics for your advertising banners. Read our insight on advertising banner fabrics

We are used to seeing banners made of plexiglas, paper applied to iron structures or PVC sheets, but label fabric can also be a great solution for promoting events, products and services. Here’s why.

    Ease of handling

An advertising banner made of fabric is far more practical to transport because it is light and can be folded up neatly, occupying very little space. What’s more, compared to PVC solutions, it doesn’t peel off over time and conveys your promotional message clearly and distinctly for years to come.

    Reusable

Compared to paper printed posters, fabric banners are more durable and can be reused again and again even outdoors without suffering any damaged. Once they are no longer required, simply untie each banner from the support structure, roll it up and store it in a safe place; it can be reused years later without fear that the printing has peeled or deteriorated.

    Flexibility

A fabric banner is more flexible, it fits on different support structures without tearing and has excellent traction resistance, making it ideal for promoting your messages even in areas prone to more windy weather.

    Eco-friendly

The manufacturing of fabric banners requires less energy compared to other types of advertising media. What’s more, its durability also optimises waste and is an environmentally friendly choice.

    Waterproofing

Our label fabrics can be waterproofed using a resin coating process. The resin coating ensures that the edges of the fabric do not become soaked when in contact with water and bestows extra tensile strength, preventing the banner from tearing or deteriorating even in strong stormy conditions.

    UV ray resistant

Until now, the main problem with fabric advertising media was their low UV ray resistance. Despite being more practical and durable than other banners available, the fabric exposed to the sun tended to turn yellow and the printed colours were prone to fading. Today, thanks to the results obtained by our R&D department, we can state that now also neutral fabrics for advertising banners are UV ray resistant and an even more valid alternative to paper, plexiglas and PVC.

  • Label printing on fabric: how to choose the right material

Label printing on fabric: how to choose the right material

The fabric roll you choose for your labels has a direct impact on the printing operations. Find out which characteristics you should check to choose the perfect label fabric for your requirements.

Fabric labels for clothing, but also for home textiles, automotive components and cosmetic or oenological products, must be long-lasting and continue to provide important information to end-users even after several years.

The lifespan of a label depends, therefore, on the printing process used to print the information, but also on the quality of the roll of fabric selected upstream of the production process.

Let’s take a look at the characteristics to take into account when dealing with neutral fabrics in order to produce labels that remain effective over time.

The type of material Fine modulo

The first thing to consider when selecting a roll of label fabric is the material. Premium quality materials, carefully designed and manufactured, can undergo any printing technique without deteriorating and ensuring optimum final aesthetic performance.

At Nastrificio di Cassano we pay particular attention to the research and development of new materials in order to ensure the delivery to all our customers of hard wearing and printable fabric rolls using both traditional and TTR techniques.

    The colour

The colour of the fabric can affect printing options, but especially the efficacy of the label in terms of brand awareness.

White rolls can be printed in both black and colour, while coloured rolls, despite having greater limitations in the printing colour choice, make the final labels much more attractive and recognisable, hence contributing to the success of a brand on the market.

    Wash resistance

To keep the label intact, the fabric selected to make the label must not start to fray after a few uses.

Once again, it’s the focus on the fabric roll design and manufacturing that makes all the difference, and our engineers have conducted a range of analyses to create a range of hard wearing fabrics that meet all your demands.

Find the right roll for your fabric label printing requirements.

  • Automotive industry labels: mandatory standards and regulations

Automotive industry labels: mandatory standards and regulations

Find out which international standards the automotive labels must comply with and contact us to receive neutral label fabrics that meet such obligations.

In the automotive industry, safety is the first and foremost requirement, also in terms of the manufacturing of labels. In addition to the attention paid to the materials used for the technical components, those working in the automotive industry must guarantee that every single element in the car is safe when in contact with flames, and the fabrics used to create the labels must also comply with these standards. Which standards apply? Let’s discover them together.

FMVSS 302 safety standard for fabrics

FMVSS 302 is a flammability safety standard used to determine the burn resistance capabilities of materials. It applies to all materials used for the interiors of buildings, such as wall coverings, floors, laminates, foams and also fabrics. It is used in the automotive industry as a reference standard to ensure the flammability of interior materials used in the occupant compartments of motor vehicles, and applies to seat covers, seat belts and also fabric labels applied to the same.

Textile materials used to manufacture labels must be tested based on several different parameters, including:

    • flame propagation speed;
    • amount of smoke produced;
    • amount of heat produced by the combustion process.

The results of these tests classify the materials on a scale of from 0 to 3, where 0 is the safest. In the automotive industry the required safety rating is class 0.

    Other international standards

FMVSS 302 is the international reference standard, but there are also other regulations that automotive component manufacturers must comply with.

In Europe, for instance, the ECE-EC R118 standard, also applies and establishes the technical prescriptions concerning the burning behaviour of materials used in the interior construction of certain categories of motor vehicles.

How to choose automotive industry labels

Manufacturers of components used in the interior construction of cars must ensure that every element supplied to the parent company complies with all applicable safety regulations. To do so, they must carefully select their suppliers and ensure that they can attach the appropriate documentation to the semi-finished products regarding compliance with safety regulations.

As far as labels are concerned, the fundamental variable is the material used.

A supplier of automotive label fabrics must guarantee the use of durable materials, that do not discolour after a short time, that do not fray and, above all, that do not ignite when in contact with initial sparks.

    • velocità di propagazione della fiamma;
    • quantità di fumo prodotta;
    • quantità di calore emessa durante il processo di combustione.

  • Bottle labels: 2 luxury solutions

    Bottle labels: 2 luxury solutions

Discover NDC’s products designed to create exclusive bottle labels that increase the perceived value of wines and spirits on the market.

In the wine-making sector labels are so important that they become synonymous with the winery that makes the wine. It is not surprising, therefore, that wine and spirits producers pay utmost attention to the packaging of their products, focusing on every minimum detail of the bottles, the boxes that contain them, and especially the labels.

In addition to providing specific indications relating to the wine or spirit, such as the area of production, the alcohol level and storage tips, bottle labels represent the values of those who produced them and, thanks to these materials, they enable the brand to position itself in a specific sector, from the large-scale distribution bottle market to the luxury bottle market, which are lavish, opulent and intended for an affluent consumer.

Luxury labels for the wine sector

If traditional bottle labels are still made of paper, when you approach the luxury wine market the labels become stunning works of art and the material chosen to produce them is selected to convey exclusivity, sophistication and attention to detail.

At Nastrificio di Cassano we have developed two different product lines for this specific application: on the one hand Flock Rayon Adhesive and on the other adhesive fabric for labels.

Flock Rayon is a flocked material that feels as soft as velvet to the touch and can be easily processed to take on a variety of shapes without losing its outstanding finish.

The adhesive fabric, on the other hand, has the same characteristics as the fabric used to create labels for other markets, but it makes the bottles more particular and conveys to users a sense that more attention has been dedicated by the winery, both to the packaging and in selecting the contents of the bottle.

How were our luxury label fabrics conceived

The idea of including luxury label fabrics in our catalogue came from our attentive listening to market demands. At Nastrificio di Cassano we are always attentive and focus on perceiving the requirements of the companies that use our fabrics for their labels and we try to respond with state-of-the-art solutions, combining practicality and aesthetic features.

By attending wine and food exhibitions, we realised just how important it was for companies to be able to count on partners who could provide quality materials to produce unique labels, so our R&D department inserted Flock Rayon and adhesive fabric labels. But our journey is far from over.

Once again this year from 3 to 5 October, we will be attending Luxepack in the Principality of Monaco, the exhibition dedicated to luxury packaging, to meet some of our long-term customers displaying their products in booths, and meet new ones, listening to their needs and developing targeted solutions.

If you wish to find out more about our luxury label range, please contact us!

We can make an appointment either at our premises or at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco during the Luxepack Exhibition from 3 to 5 October 2022.
